About

Welcome to my internet home.

Here you will find contemporary art and ecological clothing pieces with unique designs. My artistic interest lays in reflecting upon the questions of human experience and our relation to the natural world. I am amazed by the individual perspectives of our human existence. I ask myself how the inner affects the outer and how can we grow in wisdom and maybe reimagine our connection to the natural world, where everything seems to be in chaotic harmony if not touched. Therefore my art as well as textile prints often reminisce forms of nature. To me it is the grandest creation we are fortunate to be able to experience. Can nature transform us? Can we rediscover ourselves through it? How our thoughts affect our reality? Every day I grow through my art, my practice deepens and more themes and questions arise.

These are probably the most accurate descriptions that explain my artistic approach. As you will notice from my background, I prefer not to define myself too strictly. Freedom brings the needed magic to the expression. All themes I work on, come naturally to me from my surroundings and life experiences. Observation and reflection everywhere I go are the main parts of my artistic research, although some themes surely come from my interest in philosophy too. The choice of media, in which I work to express a particular theme, is also varying. This may not sound as a usual artistic statement, but my life experiences till now have been diverse as well. My hope is that you can connect to my work instantly, without requiring many words to explain it. I believe that exactly this represents art at its best.

All paintings and prints are unique drawings made by me. For more inspiration just check out my Instagram account.

My Background

Here is a short story about me.

As long as I can remember I loved to paint and draw but the path to being able to live my creativity was not an easy one. Being born into a post communist period in Lithuania I had to think in very early years how I will be able to support myself in the future. It was not a good time to dream or hope to become an artist. Although I was going to an evening art school at that time it became soon clear that an alternative path needed to be found.

When I finished school I ended up studying textile design and technology at one of the universities in my home country. This gave me the opportunity to be in a creative field with solid career opportunities.

After my studies I moved to Germany. There I worked and studied again. At the end I gained, what one would say, an unusual degree for a creative person – a masters´degree in Business Management. It was an interesting experience and with the view of today I can say that it was the right path at that particular moment in time. This experience showed me that by doing things we thought we would never be able to do, we can expand our perception of who we are or can be in the future. There I also realised the reasons why our economical world is as it is. Our underlining intention with which we go about things always decides the final result. By placing myself in these very different worlds of creativity and business I learned a lot about life itself and how important it is to place oneself into different contexts to gain a broader perspective. We learn through experience.

Finally, after several years of working in fashion industry and developing my artistic practice on the side, I moved again, this time to the Netherlands. There I started to create art professionally.

My biggest desire is to elevate You or give you a new, fresh perspective on life through my works. There is something more in us which goes beyond intellect. This inner wisdom guides us in ways which we may not be able to comprehend in a particular situation. Our journeys continue. Nothing stays the same.

about sustainability of aurelija designs

My goal for the textile part is to merge the creative expression with functionality and offer ecological clothing with high material quality. I believe that sustainable production in fashion should become a standard and not an exception. It is not about saving the world it is just about taking responsibility for our actions. There is still a very long way to go but new brands which are coming up, set new standards to an old industry. They show that fashion can be transparent and ecological. They are my inspiration. I want to support this development with offering creative and ecological t-shirts in a premium material quality.

At the moment I work with Spreadshirt Germany.  This company has a strong portfolio of t-shirt suppliers who are members of a fair wear foundation (The Fair Wear Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation that works to improve conditions for workers in garment factories).

For all of my t-shirts I choose a supplier which offers an earth positive (earth neutral) product quality. Which means that the t-shirts were produced using alone the renewable green energy from wind and solar power. The cotton which they use for the fabric comes also from ecological cultivation. Their 100% organic cotton fabric has a very high quality. It's soft, has a perfect thickness and long durability. I am sure you will enjoy wearing it as I really do so :D.

I follow these new ecological production developments. It is great to notice that with time we see more innovation in the production. New ecological materials are coming to the market, which were not available before. As the consumers are buying more consciously, the industry is forced to react, which is great! I will definitely look for further innovative ideas in this area too. I am sure that exiting times are coming.

At the moment I am also working on sustainable packing alternatives for my artworks. I do not want to use plastic, which seems to not be an easy task when it comes to replacing the bubble wrap. I will share the developments around this topic on my Instagram page.

Nature is a great source of inspiration

Nature is definitely my biggest source of inspiration, not just for creativity but for life in general. It is something magical about spending time in the Nature. It allows us to stop running through life for a moment and just relax, look around. We notice after a while that there are greater things out there. This can be a comforting experience. After a while everything else does not matter anymore.

Going for a walk in a forest helps not just to relax, it also lifts the creativity as we experience the most beautiful colors and shapes. Do you notice how alive and vibrant your surroundings actually are? It is natural that we should then take care of our nature. I want to inspire you with my work and try to do this as sustainably as possible.

Have fun in finding YOUR piece of art!
